Blog: Court Orders Shell To Set Stricter Climate Targets — Other Companies Should Follow

July 29, 2021 marked Earth Overshoot Day.

That is the day we are collectively exceeding our planet’s resources for the year, extracting and emitting more than nature can regenerate. It felt like good day to remember the recent Dutch court ruling, which ordered fossil fuel giant Shell to set more ambitious climate targets.

In my latest blog, I look at the implication of that ruling and posit that we need stricter rules to force companies to account for and mitigate their scope 3 emissions. This will be a critical element in transitioning to a society that operates within planetary boundaries.
